Brigade Road
Bangalore Bistro
Submitted by shrutiviswanathan on Wed, 10/02/2010 - 12:40. Brigade Road | Restaurant | ContinentalThe restaurant is located in a large complex (the name eludes me) down the road from Eva Mall. It's a rooftop restaurant and this does wonders for the ambiance. They have indoor and outdoor seating but I strongly recommend the outdoors. The view was pretty, seating comfortable and weather fantastic. The middle of the table has a small depression which is filled with petals and candles. Pwetty!!
Having heard much about the generous portions and wanting to save room for dessert, we skipped starters and went to the main course. They gave us complimentary nachos which were OK but nothing I would recommend ordering. I ordered the Canneloni, Rads ordered the Triple Chicken (or something like that) and Tuhina ordered the Meditteranean Chicken. The Canneloni was awesome. Fairly generous portions and the vegetables were crisp, fresh with a distinctive flavour. It had enough cheese to make me happy but not so much that it killed the dish . I had bites of the other dishes and my gauche vegetarian taste buds preferred Rads's dish. Rads swears that all the chicken dishes here are great.
We were quite full at the end of this and decided to order Oreo Shakes instead of a big dessert. While the Oreo Shake was good, I think the ones at Bocca Grande or Mocha are way better. The Java Lava sounded sinful, but we skipped it in deference to our ever expanding waistlines :(. It cost us around 350-400 per person. The prices are a little steep but its worth it.

Cafe Masala
Submitted by anandkr on Wed, 05/09/2007 - 10:42. Bangalore | Brigade Road | Restaurant | Italian | Mexican | Punjabi | Part of a chainThis is part of the chain of restaurants by BJN Group (Samarkhand, Hypnos, Sahib Sind Sultan etc).
First the ambience
- The lighting is too bright for my taste
- Music is too loud
- Too many staff hovering around. On top it they have open kitchens.. so the staff inside the kitchen add to the crowd.
- Staff has a very funny green colored uniform
Now coming to food
- I had a cocktail made out of Vodka. I hate white sugar in cocktails. The best is cane sugar.
- Ordered Jalapeno bites... too hard & the Jalapeno tasted like Capsicum.
- I ordered Pasta in tomato sauce. Too much Garlic & on the salty side. These days i am very low on salt and prefer to get the natural taste of the food. Pizza hut's Pasta tastes better.
- Wife ordered Pudina roti (Where was the Pudina???) and Veg Jalfreizi. Strictly Ok.
Overall was disappointed as i had started having high expectations of any BJN group venture as their restaurants are always of high quality when it comes to food. I gave the feedback & the manager was sincere in telling me that they are looking for feedbacks to improve. They are new.. so my sincere hope is that they improve.
Till then i would advocate this place only if you have a crowd with mixed preferences to eat. If you are focussed on a particular type of cuisine then there are speciality & better options out there in the city.
cheers

Cheap booze, bad food, dirty ambiance, rowdy crowd. That's about it.
Hae Kum Gang
Submitted by jace on Fri, 09/03/2007 - 19:41. Brigade Road | RestaurantHae Kum Gang is a quiet restaurant on Castle Street, off Brigade Road, serving Korean food. Both food and service are excellent. We went there on a date, ordered a salad and main course, and were given six types of starters (veg) free. When we asked, they said "Korean Service". The starters were all great. The waiters asked us on more than one occasion if we wanted refills.
The food, needless to say, was also very good. We're definitely visiting again.
Tibbs Frankie
Submitted by cnb on Thu, 18/01/2007 - 13:44. Bangalore | Mumbai | Brigade Road | Indian | CheapmaxA Bombay Frankie stall chain. You get them all over Bombay at Churchgate Station, near Sena Bhavan Dadar (which is the best one), Linking Road Bandra, etc.
While the Dadar one is actually very good (good enough to go for by itself) and the only one I would recommend. Yet somehow all stalls manage to have that similar unique flavour.
I spotted one on Brigade Road in Bangalore recently and sure as heck couldn't avoid eating there although I didn't have much expectation from it.
I was pleasantly surprised when I bit into it. That same soft spongy flavour although the "roti" is crispy on the outside and the wet (as in not dry;-) chicken with gravy which keeps dripping down into the plastic thing they give you to hold the frankie in. That's probably the difference between these and the dry Kathi Rolls. This feels more like actual food the wet gravy and soft roti which just taste better as you eat them compared to a Kathi Roll which feels dry and requires to be forcibly gulped down.
This is probably personal preference. That's why I like the Chicken Bhuna Roll at Bade Miya compared to the dry Seekh or Boti Rolls. But then everyone who I introduced the Chicken Bhuna Roll to has been a instant convert ;-)
Delicous! The taste was so similar to the Bombay ones that I was instantly reminded of Bombay! Anyone who has eaten at the better Tibbs Frankie stalls in Bombay will know what I mean.
The only con -- there were two bones in the chicken. Ugh.

Submitted by cnb on Mon, 25/12/2006 - 05:32. Bangalore | Brigade Road | Residency Road | BarDirt cheap quarter bar for the days you are broke and otherwise too.
They have 3 levels of floors.
- A standard Bangalore type bar on the ground floor where you can stand and drink.
- Two bar rooms with seating on the first and second floors.
- The best is the terrace with seating which is a very chilled out place when it's not crowded.
Booze is around 45 a quarter of Old Monk and Chicken starters are about 55 bucks each.

Submitted by anandkr on Mon, 18/12/2006 - 10:36. Bangalore | Brigade Road | Restaurant | Kerala | Chinese | Punjabi | South Indian | AffordableAfter the Deep Purple show (amazingly in a school ground that echoed like a haunted house) moi & wife landed up here in search for something to fill our stomach. Ordered some chappathis, Egg curry and malai kofta. The waiter told us as a matter of fact that if you want it quick please order anything with paneer!!! We said we will wait for the malai kofta.
The egg curry and the chappthi came in fast. The curry was standard (i saw the same one being passed on as mix veg curry on the next table) with 2 boiled eggs thrown in. Wife waiting for Malai Kofta.. after 10mins by which the Chappathis had gone cold (damn the Bangalore weather these days... cant sit in the open without food going cold on you.. otherwise it is brilliant) the malai kofta came, which did not look the way malai kofta should (have you seen anything in dark grey??)
Overall go there if you dont find anything and want to fill your stomach.

The place is crowded on weekends. You might actually have to wait a few minutes before you get a table. Serves Chinese and Thai food. Beer (Castle/Kingfisher) available.
We ordered Chinese Wontons for starters. Not very great. I love Thai food, and that's what I basically wanted to try. We ordered Parthai noodles, steamed rice and Thai green curry. The noodles were just okay, nothing great. As for the green curry, well, I haven't had worse Thai food before.
The green curry actually had starch in it.
I should probably try the Chinese stuff here someday, but I don't feel like going there again. Somehow, loads of people come here.Tuscan Verve
