The Little Italy

| | | |
Summary: Vegetarian Only Italian Restaurant
Description:

Been here few times...but for some reason writing the review only now. I went there today and i got a feeling that they are getting jaded. All their items in the menu seems to be a concoction of veggies, olive oil and different types of cheeses. So you need to be careful about what you want if you dont want your food to be killed with overdose of Cheese. By the way they also have some mexican on the menu.

We had a Crostini Platter and Avocado salad for starters. The platter was good and the salad could do with less tomato on it.

Wife decided to skip the main course and i ordered myself a Risotto with some Porcini mushrooms. I asked the steward to customize the dish but without checking with the Chef he said no and started explaining why the dish cannot be cooked like what i wanted. After i insisted he went and checked and the Chef was more than ready to do that.

One thing that i noted is lot of people around us had the look on their face that said "the dish doesnt look like what i had visualized based on what i read". May be the waiters can start becoming knowledgeable about the dishes and explain to the customers. If i want to rank the Italian restaurants in the city.. i would rank it 3rd behind Italia, Fiorano (in the order). But the place is quite popular. They have 3 sections...1) Enclosed non - smoking area 2) Lounge - smoking 3) Al Fresco

Wallet Factor : Approx 800 to 900 bucks per person including drinks for a 3 course meal.

Beach

| | |
Summary: Beach theme drinking joint, open early evenings
Description:

We - me and my cousin - went there as we found that this place is a much cheaper alternate to TGIF. When you want to drink at 5:30 in the evening (back home at 8:00, no police and wife problems. Drinks? - you never had any!!),there are not may places around except for the hole in the wall bar & restaurants. Other places are empty or loud or both.

At the Beach, prices are reasonable, they have happy hours for drinks in the evenings, the staff is friendly (not the Manager). The food is okay, not great. When we complained that the Chicken is way too spicy, we got an exchange immediately. That I think is good service. Until about 7:30 PM. At 7:30 PM the Manager found that two of us are occupying a table for four, kept on reminding us to get out of the place as there are guests waiting.

Take 5

| | |
Summary: Disappointed
Description:

Got really disappointed with this place, had to write this comment.. Ordered 'Chateaubriand Supreme'. Was supposed to be a tenderloin cut. Was anything but tender. Really bad taste.. Had that vague pungent lamb smell for steak.. unbelievable.. The first time I ever left a steak on the plate uneaten.. 200 bucks down the drain.. I complained to the waiter that the steak was bad.. He replied.. "Sir, you said 'well done'".. I rest my case..

Pongal Cafe

| | | |
Summary: Fantastic Pongal
Description:

Amazing Pongal... If you are a south indian or have a liking towards the dish go there. You wouldnt have eaten something like that anywhere in Bangalore. Just the right consistency (not watery...like you get in the Sagars of the world or solid dry stuff in some places). Otherwise.. standard fare on other counts.. .nothing great to write about.

Crossover Point

| | | | | | |
Summary: Great cocktails
Description:

This is a restaurant complex with

Crossover Point - Veg Restaurant (the others are non veg)
Grill - Self explainatory ;-)
Fire and Flakes - Lounge
The Silver Tube - Music & Dance
Ville Chaumiere - Food from Europe, Mediterranean, the Far East, Middle East and India

I only had cocktails here so this isn't a comprehensive review. But the cocktails were great. The second best Long Island Ice Tea I've had in Bangalore But the Dog Beach Ice Tea was a killer. A bit less stronger than the LIIT but it had Absolut & Bombay Sapphire Gin. Rocked!

Cocktail were between 250 and 300 each. I'm definitely going back for the cocktails if not anything else. More later.

Sue's Kitchen

| | |
Summary: Caribbean cusine in Bangalore
Description:

Well its the only place serving carribean fare in bangalore(to the best of my knowledge)...

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly(a bit homely)..decorated with carribean memorabilia and reggae in background.. It seems West Indies cricket team pays them a visit whenever they are in town.

Alas, they dont serve liquor, but they have some exotic sounding concotations.

The food is awesome and reasonably priced. Don't forget the rum cake afterwards. Weekend buffet are also a treat. The damages are in tune of Rs 200 - 300 per head.
