MTR (Mavalli Tiffin Room)

This place is an institution in Bangalore. So much so few years back (during SM Krishna time) when they decided to close down, the issue got escalated right upto the chief minister and they requested the place be kept open.

My favourite breakfast place. The pain is to get a place. Weekends are crazy.. if you have a lady with you you probably would be saved of the waiting. Closed on Mondays. The Vidyarthi Bhavan (another institution) die hards will not subscribe to this place.

Very limited menu.. so dont bother with asking for a menu.

Breakfast
- Masala Dosa : Just about the right crispiness (not too soft and not papad like).. with some nice green chutney coating and a good palya (masala). You get a small cup of desi ghee to spread liberally on top of it.. heaven
- Idli : You will be lucky if you get it. But nice only if you have Sambar to go with it.
- Khara Bath (upma) : The most amazing khara bath that i ever had. Cant explain the taste.. you should have it.

Lunch (75 bucks).. go starving if you want to do full justice to the meal. Too rich and personally dont subscribe to the taste.

Starts with some dosas / pongal / bisibele bath (a typical kannadiga style mixed sambar rice.. be aware it doesnt taste remotely similar to the kind of sambar that you have with dosas / idlis) and then starts the main course of rice with sambar / rasam / curd and then ends with some sweets. The food just keeps coming and all are unlimited.
