Residency Road
Ithaca - The Chancery Pavilion
Submitted by anandkr on Sun, 17/06/2007 - 12:06. Bangalore | Residency Road | Restaurant | MediterraneanAfter some 3 months, me & wife decided to go out for dinner and wanted to try a new place (new for us!!). I had read about this restaurant some months back and decided to land there. When i called them to check whats on the menu.. the manager said we have international food with Mutton Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka and other international food on buffet. I was skeptical...but went on.
We walked in at about 0730PM with about 3 / 4 people in the restaurant.. which again put me off. After a cursory walk across the buffet spread we settled on Al a carte.
We decided to skip the salads & soups.. but they did make for a interesting read. They had a selection of warm & cold soups / salads. We ordered Pita crisps with 3 different type of dips and Kalametta Olives seasoned with balsamic vinegar. They did go down very well with the drinks. Out of the 3 dips.. one was with cucumber (is that a Mediterranean vegetable??) with sour cream and finished with some olive oil & basil. It was fantastic and i asked for a second helping.
oh!! did i forgot to mention that they had a live band and the guy singing was very good albeit a bit loud. But thats fine. And if you choose.. they have a pool side service.. but that was quite noisy with spill over crowd from some parties that were being hosted. The decor inside is quite nice & airy and the tall ceiling adds to the space around you.
Coming back to the food.. we ordered Risotto with mushrooms for myself and Roesti for my wife. The Risotto was good... the consistency just right... starchy without too much sauce. but the mushrooms overwelhmed the taste of the rice and the sauce. But i liked it. But the best was the roesti (could'nt resist digging into my wife's place :-)... the potato / onion pancake just done right and finished with nice pumpkin sauce. The strong taste of the roesti offset by the milder pumpkin sauce.. it was good. They had some vegetables on the side.. but i was disappointed with the quantity of them. And by this time the restaurant filled up.. which is always a good sign that the food is good there. We ordered a Apple & Hazelnut crisp for Dessert.... it was nice. Apple pie and Hazel nut infused crisps on top with vanilla icecream. I would have preferred it warm.
The service was good. The waiters always hovering around without being overbearing and they were all friendly. More inportantly they did not hurry us.
They had otherstuff on the menu like Pizzas, Pastas etc.. but we did not venture into that area. The wallet factor was 2500 bucks for 2 people with Drinks / appetizers / Main course & Dessert.
All in all a good experience. Go there if you feel like splurging some money and have some good time with people close to you.
Corner House
Submitted by arunksj on Sun, 10/06/2007 - 12:57. Residency Road | Roadside | Indian | Affordable | Must Visit | Part of a chainI'm surprised that there is no mention of Corner-house ice-cream shop till now. This is one of the older places (of late they've opened in other places too) and legendary among Bangaloreans. Though not exactly a road-side, it is a bit cramped and gets annoyingly crowded during weekends. This is an exclusive ice-cream shop and they serve mind-blowing variety of ice-creams. The menu is quite inviting and they can serve customized ice-cream too. Pick any flavor/combination, it is bound to be good. A must visit place.

We had Chicken Masala with Rumali Rotis. The Chicken Masala not very spicy as we had expected but had this very fragrant taste. My sister said it's the cinnamon. The Rumali Rotis were huge, around twice the size of other places.
The paneer sholay starter wasn't very good. Very dry and too much garam masala.
The Chicken Biryani was excellent. Well the rice was but the chicken could have been softer.
That's it for a first report. Any suggestions on what to try out here?

Cheap booze, bad food, dirty ambiance, rowdy crowd. That's about it.

Bangalore | Residency Road | Restaurant | Chettinad | South Indian | AffordableI have gone to this place few times after my mandatory saturday stints at Purple Haze. They serve meals, Dosa, Idly, Biryanis (meat / veg). But the focus of the menu is their meat preparations... Mutton, Chicken, Pigeon, Shark (in the form of puttu) etc. If you like the south indian style prepared meats go for it. Decent value for money. The hotel is originally from Chennai.

They have 3 levels of floors.
- A standard Bangalore type bar on the ground floor where you can stand and drink.
- Two bar rooms with seating on the first and second floors.
- The best is the terrace with seating which is a very chilled out place when it's not crowded.
Booze is around 45 a quarter of Old Monk and Chicken starters are about 55 bucks each.

- Sea food platter. Just keeps coming
- Go ahead and order a mix of appams, idiappams and for sides order just about anything with seafood.. particularly their lobsters.
Drinks are standard or imported Vodka / Whiskey / Gin / Wine etc. So nothing specific to write about.
For a team of 4 to 5 people with 2 drinks + starter + maincourse + desserts will put you back by 10K to 12K bucks.

Bangalore | Residency Road | Pub | Mangalorean | South Indian | Part of a chainPart of the rapidly expanding Pecos chain, this place has the tested and proven Pecos formula. Good classic rock, good food and great beer. Yeah beer. For some reason the temprature and taste of beer is best in the pubs in the Pecos Chain.
The ambiance is nice. Dim but not dark. The music is loud but one can hold a conversation if you raise your voice a bit.
The Pork Chilli and the Kerala Beef make excellent beer accompaniments. For a main course the Appams with Chicken Stew or Dosa Chicken would be my favourites.
Oh yeah and they have a pitcher and mug card system. If you drink 10 Pitchers you get one free. Same with mugs.
The crowd is mostly young with a good smattering of good looking women :)
An excellent rock pub to hang out at.

Submitted by cnb on Wed, 09/08/2006 - 05:45. Bangalore | Residency Road | Restaurant | Mughlai | AffordableA large restaurant serving Mughlai food in Bangalore.
There are AC and NON AC Sections. (Who needs an AC in Bangalore?)
The food is great and very reasonably priced. Also one can get a 'quarter' portion of most food. So one can taste a number of dishes.
The Mutton Biryani there is especially good. Some good starters are Chicken Kababs and Bheja Fry.
The place is open quite late too (Bangalore standards) so one can go there for a late night dinner after a pub hopping session.
Purple Haze
Submitted by cnb on Wed, 09/08/2006 - 05:29. Bangalore | Residency Road | Pub | AffordableDefinitly the best hard rock pub in Bangalore.
Dim, dark ambiance which suits the music. Waiters who can be extra friendly if you know how to 'work' them else they can be super snobby.
Always packed. So unless you are with a group of 4 or above you'll find yourself having to share tables with sometimes an unruly bunch.
The french fries are particularly nice. Soft, melt in your mouth and they have a spicy coating! The rest of the food is avoidable.
But _NOTHING_ . _NOWHERE_ . _NO PUB_ can beat the energy of this place especially when they play PAINKILLER by Judas Priest and everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs and headbanging to the swirling guitar riffs.
A large screen in the middle of the place as well as several TVs around the restaurant show the videos of the songs being played.
An awesome hard rock experience!
