Description:

Vidyarthi Bhavan is a historic old Dosa place in Gandhi Bazaar, Bangalore.

The thick dosas come soaked in ghee and if you ask for a Masala Dosa they add a blob of butter into the bhaji. Something my friend Sachin would term as Heart Attack Dosa if he ever visits.

This place starts early morning just before 7 and starts getting crowded by 7:30 so it's best that you go before 7. When it gets crowded they get the batches of Dosas out in stacks (photo above) and put them at each table.

Most of the people coming here are regulars who have been coming here since years. Infact the story goes that since this place is closed on Fridays it is packed full of people on Thursday who are mourning that it will be closed the next day.

In my first visit there with Shekhar Sanyal I acted like a stud and ordered 3 dosas thinking they will be the thin Bombay Udipi sort. After eating one I realised I was screwed and only barely managed to eat the second one. The third was shared by the folks who accompanied me.

I left that place with food almost popping out of my throat after stuffing myself that much. It also takes a lot of tissue paper to wipe the ghee off your hands!
