Fries With That

Arnab's eclectic list of "what goes with what".

We all like to mix things. Business with pleasure. Pleasure with, um, food. Food with other food. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's like putting up Itchy and Scratchy at the Sheraton Honeymoon suite. So here's a journeyman's viewpoint on things that mix, and things that don't. Updated whenever I have the time.

Episode One : Noo Ears: It's not easy being a teetotaller. Why should those drunken fools have all the mixing fun? I had a great time this New Year's; people were scanning the room and pointing to me, saying "Man, you're drunk!". I'm blaming it on the sugar. Discoveries of day:

Thums up and Cranberry Juice: Equal parts, I used Dabur's "Real" Juice. Adds a fruity twist to the fizz. As effervescent ad types would put it, "It's like twotiming Bipasha Basu and Priety Zinta and getting away with it!"

Limca and Pineapple Juice: Two words - Never Again.

Cold Salami wrapped in cold chicken sandwich slices: This doesn't make sense right now, but I distinctly remember the pleasures of fusing flesh that night.

That's about it for now, more later!

Episode Two : genraal update:
Just wanted to put these down before I forgot:

Thums Up and Apple Juice: Not quite the cranberry phenomenon, but drinkable.

Orange Juice and Mango Juice: This is courtesy Mocha's, who sell this as some hyperexpensive offering of theirs. It's a great drink to serve chilled; you get this unusual feeling of the orange tasting too mangoish and the mangoes tasting too orangeinsh. Quite a fun drink. Also, I haven't tried this, but I think a little bit of mint (or Pudin Haraa) on the top would be just right.

Tomato Sauce and Milk: This isn't a ready to eat combo, but a quick and dirty cooking trick while making anything Italian. Dump a ton of sauce into the gravy, and slowly add milk into the hot curry. The milk + tomato + preservative combination results in a fairly convincing smooth cheesy flavor / texture.

PS: If you've got your own combos, write in!
