Gol Gappas == Pani Puri??

Amongst the first things when it comes to telling about delicacies in mumbai/pune to a delhite....

'Beta ! vahan ki pani puri zaroor try karna!'

and we keep hopping from place to place to have the much hyped pani puri which could leave an everlasting taste...!

contrast to the age-old belief that pani puri is the regional term for gol gappas...i have found that there is a significant difference in the two snacks...

while here in mumbai/pune they serve hot chanas dipped in the spicy water....nowhere in delhi you will find anything hot in any of the gol gappas ...

not all pani puris have mashed potatoes with chana..while gol gappas always always take potatoes..!

another difference is in the variety of puris...gol gappas give a choice between atta and suji(wheat flour and semolina) puris...while there are no options in pani wala puris

the spice ofcourse makes another difference...

even the claimed best pani puris could not meet the traditional taste of gol gappas....

the only similarity seems to be the way they are served and the look...

Ofcourse what tastes better is purely subjective...but i guess, we should stop confusing pani puris with gol gappas!
