Phoenix and Sion Koliwada
Sigfood Trail - Phoenix & Sion Koliwada
Yesterday's dinner with P turned into a Sigfood trail after solzaire turned up. While waiting for solzaire at Phoenix Mills I decided I wanted icecream, so first stop.
Naturals Icecream
Pineapple-Papaya - Strange but nice taste. Never had had this before.
Then we decided to check out the food stalls.
Chilee
Chicken Momos - There was 'hair' in one of the pieces right on the covering. Sent back the plate. After a lot of deliberation they dumped the piece in question added one and gave it back. I convinced P to stay there to eat meanwhile only because I was told that place was owned by a Ryzer.
solzaire turned up by then so we decided to do a food hop.
Wraps and Rolls
Mexican Chicken Roll - More of a con job since it contained 'chaat' masala with a bit of Salsa.
Brownie Point
Fruit Custard - Yuck, enough said. Ok fine, it was watery and fruit tasted again, yuck.
Our aim that day was to eat at Modern Lunch Home which is somewhere on Ambedkar Road, Parel but with my brilliant sense of directions we missed the place entirely so decided to go to Sion Koliwada remembering Ranten's suggestion. After a lot of wandering around in shady areas of Sion Koliwada we finally found the place where Hazara and Mini-Punjab stand next to each other.
Hazara
After a bit of delibration we decided to go into Hazara as the place has a decent A/C room where P might be more comfortable. It turned out to be a good idea as they have a nice family room where they allow only families or well if you're with women.
Prawns Koliwada - This dish was invented here in this area of Sion Koliwada. So we had to have it. Once you have it here you'll realise the difference between the real 'Prawns Koliwada' and what they serve you at Shetty joints.
Tandoori Chicken - Succulent. Yummy. A little more marination would make it perfect.
Rawas Tandoori - Melted in the mouth.
Next we made a mistake by ordering two 'saag' dishes because we had decided on Chicken Saagwala then we remembered Ranten's suggestion of Sarson Da Saag and Makkai Di Roti. These two dishes tasted so similar that they destroyed our taste for both I think.
In retrospect we should have ordered a spicy chicken dish. In the end everything turned out to be too spinachy.
Of course all this food went down with 4 quarters of Old Monk. Prawns Koliwada are just not the same without it ;-)
