Silk Route

| | | | | | |
Summary: Possibly the best Chinese food in Pune
Description:

Koregaon Park is known for its sprinkling of speciality restaurants. This one is not to be missed.

The interiors are very cozy and intimate. The service is excellent. They have a sort of lounge on the upper storey - but I have never eaten there.

The food is simply superb! I have tried Chinese and Thai here - and have never been disappointed. I find the experience and food quality better than Mainland China.

The place is a bit expensive - so go there on some occasion...

Kiva Lounge

| | | | | | |
Summary: the place rocks!
Description:

Situated at Range Hills Road,Ashok Nagar (area behind E-square) the Kiva lounge welcomes you with a warm yellow building. Decent amount of parking and valet to boot, ensures there is no minor irritant to ruin the appetite.

A mediterranean ambience with cosy seating and warm interiors makes Kiva quite a hotspot for the young and old alike, offering a casual and contemporary environ to just lounge.

A live DJ playing an excellent mix of the old and young, is the perfect complement to the well-cooked and equally well-served food and drinks.

For all those wanting a good place to chill out, but don't want to travel as far as Koregaon Park, Kiva is a good option to hang out. The service is prompt and the food appeals to all palates! What is most interesting about this place that it actually attracts a diverse clientele and despite the place not being open or large, one does not feel suffocated. There is enough privacy too between seats.

Would rate the place at 10/10 overall.

Chocoa

| | |
Summary: Dubai's first chcoolate lounge
Description:

This is a little boutique and chocolate lounge, and quite a dangerous place for a chocaholic! They have some amazing chocolate confections on offer: like chocolates flavoured with Earl Grey tea, or saffron, or decorated with a spray of gold. The hot chocolate is simply slurpilicious. Cookies are ok. Best of all, they actively encourage you to taste the wares. Hampers are beautifully packed, and there are loads of books on chocolate that you can browse through while sipping your espresso. Chocolates are about AED180 per kg. Great quality!

Tuscan Verve

| | |
Summary: Tuscan Verve is the new Taika!
Description: There was a time in Bangalore when Taika was the last word on coolness. No more. Tuscan Verve has a very urban, boutique-ish decor. The furniture is stylish and varied: iMac-style chairs, compfy couches, etc. The lighting changes over time -- red, pink, blue -- and it's perfect. There is no dance floor (it's a lounge bar, yo!), but as the night sets in you can find people grooving in the area close to the DJ console.
They have a cover of 1000 bucks per couple on select days. You can use that for two drinks. Long Island Iced Teas are priced at INR 350, as are most other cocktails. INR 150 for a pint of beer. INR 150 for a pack of cigarettes (no Marlboro lights here; my fallback, Davidoff classic, was available). One gripe about the place: you have to pay as soon as you order anything. It's a PITA to sign every half hour or so. (Apparently, lot of people run away without paying.) The music's very good. Popular lounge music, and lots of hip-hop.

The Den

Description: A grand, royal looking lounge bar... a little decked up place which serves some real good starters and platters .. both veg and non-veg are apparently amazing...! A variety of cocktails and mocktails to sip in while the music and the soft lights take you high. On an expensive side and might prove heavy for pockets of those who wanna hop aroung to eat.. Spinach curls officialy proven delicious ( a little oiled though!) ... do not missss!!! But the grandeur doesnt end in music and servings .. even the menu card and bill presentation are eye-catchy!!

Saffron Spice

| | | | | | | | |
Summary: Speciality high-fi Indian cuisine restaurant
Description:

It is quite hard to understand Indian cuisine speciality restaurants in the country. They claim to serve authentic Indian food - wouldn't I just wander into my friend's house? I never understood this but it has been pointed out that these places are mainly for treats, business meetings, and entertaining foreigners. They also give you a taste of far-off places within India while retaining the correctness of the items prepared. Saffron Spice successfully does all of this and more.

Saffron Spice is located at the start of Hiranandani Gardens in Powai above Pizza Hut on IIT main road. There is an adjoining good lounge bar with good cocktails though all this is expensive. Saffron Spice is also expensive at well over 200 for each dish. The food hoever, is excellent. Over a few visits, we have tried and liked the Mutton Bhuna, the Gosht, Chettinad chicken, Kerala roast chicken, many coastal fish dishes, and a large variety of the usual chicken dishes. They have good Indian deserts too but they are ridiculously priced.

In summary, Saffron Spice tries to fill the void of hi-fi eating places in Powai. It is expensive, but serves excellent food. That said, the service is sloppy and lost - once the host of waiters were confused and hassled with just four tables occupied. Things definitely worsen on a full night with their large seating capacity.

Crobar

| | | | | | | | |
Summary: Most Happening Nightclub in Miami
Description: The Most Happenning Night Club in Miami. Frequented by the hottest locals and tourists. Open till 6am every night. Entry is around 20$ and strictly couples only. Drinks are around $6 for a beer thereabouts. Crowded on almost all days including the thursday that we went there, because the party never ends at Miami ! :) The lighting on the ground floor where there is the dance floor(image above) is pretty dark and the music is techno with laser lights. Two huge giant screens are also there which play some psychedelic videos which you dont seem to understand most of the time ! :) The first floor lounge (image above) is also pretty happenning. It has live music playing there - the day I was there, there was a Band with drums, banjo, etc. The Decor is pretty cool and techno as you can see in the picture above and at site. The highlight of CroBar are the dancing girls as you can see in the above image. :) They dance on elevated platforms and rock the party away whenever normal customers get tired of dancing there ! :) Must-visit while in Miami ! :)

Shooters

| | | | | |
Summary: Contender for one of the best Rock Pubs in Bombay
Description:

Shooters seriously contends for the top spot of the best rock pub in Bombay. They have an amazing music system with excellent bass. The DJ ignores the equalizers sometimes which is not so good. They have happy hours from 7pm to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday. Buy 1 get 1 free.

We sat there for about 4 hours and did not get bored at all. The service is efficient, the ambience is the usual pubby darkness. The cocktails are good, especially the Long Island Ice Tea and the Bloody Mary. The music proceeds from Trance to Senti (in their words) to Rock to random Dance stuff. They didn't change this order over three hours even though we were the only customers and asked to jump to rock as soon as possible. In any case, the music system won our hearts, being significantly better than Toto's. The snacks and starters avaiable there are very expensive at 70/- for fries, 170/- for kababs.

Comments/opinions about other rock pubs in Bombay also welcome.
