Quarter Bar

Submitted by chetanv on Tue, 29/05/2007 - 01:19. Pune | Hadapsar | Quarter Bar | Restaurant | Indian | Maharashtrian | AffordableThis is the least seedy bar I have found in Hadapsar. It has 2 floors with an air-conditioned room on the ground floor. TV exists.
Food is strictly mediocre. Most of the times they won't serve kababs and you have to make do with the Chicken chilly starter. But, the mutton thali is the saving grace. It has a "wati" of mutton broth, mutton kheema in addition to a very maharashtrian "liquid" mutton gravy - with chapatis and rice. Its a very satisfying dinner to have after a couple of beers.

Cheap booze, bad food, dirty ambiance, rowdy crowd. That's about it.
Chandrama
Submitted by chetanv on Tue, 17/04/2007 - 14:12. Pune | Aundh | Quarter Bar | AffordableParihar Chowk has bars on two of its corners. Chandrama is one of them. It has seating outside - which I think is better if the weather is fine; and an AC section upstairs. The AC section has good subdued lighting - but the effect is somewhat spoiled by the noisy waiters.
The joint is a bit expensive though - Rs. 100 for a beer (KF).
Make no mistake though - this is a seedy bar. (A dog loitered into the AC section and calmly went to sleep under the sofa where I was sitting. When I told this to a waiter, he said "Kuch nahi karega - kaanta nahi hai bilkul". Apparently, the dog is a regular.)
Pingara
Submitted by bvs on Tue, 17/04/2007 - 13:36. Koramangala | Quarter Bar | Mangalorean | AffordableThey call this a Family Restaurant. But looks like a typical Mangalorean Drinking joint.
I went there in the evening at about 6:30. The place was empty. Too early for a crowd to be in such a place, I guess.
Beer costs 70 KF Lager. A plate of Kane Fry costs 70. The fish was fresh, the beer chilled. Service was friendly.
Looks like a good place to have fish curry rice and beer in the after noon or a quick drink with friends in the evening.

Comfortable seats. Dark shady bar ambiance.

Submitted by cnb on Sun, 17/12/2006 - 16:03. Bangalore | Frazer Town | Bar | Quarter Bar | Restaurant | Indian | MughlaiVery old quarter bar in Bangalore with huge round antique tables which Raunak mentioned are probably worth 50000 each. The seats are very comfortable and if it wasn't for the not so sophisticated crowd the whole experience would be like a club house.
The place is quite small but oddly the loo is almost as big as the place itself. There also seemed to be only one waiter for the whole place. As a consequence of which the bills keep getting mixed up. We had an extra 100 odd added to our bill. So be careful to check the bill everytime.
We had 3 quarters of old monk at sixty bucks each and some excellent food. Fish fry which I thought was the best dish there was an awesome fresh surmai. The mutton pepper fry and and liver fry were also very good. Please avoid the kheema balls and prawns fry completely. They were horrid.

Submitted by chetanv on Thu, 23/11/2006 - 14:07. Pune | F C Road | Bar | Quarter Bar | AffordableWhile hunting for inexpensive bars in Pune, a friend and me stumbled into this place. It is in the basement behind Savera restuarant on FC Road.
Its a standard quarter bar with experienced waiters (we all know what that means). Don't get experimental with the food. Stick to the basic "chakna" and some starter chicken dish and you should be OK.
There is a small TV in the corner, so its a good place to be if there's an Indian cricket match on.
Ambiance
Submitted by cnb on Wed, 11/10/2006 - 18:23. Mumbai | Lower Parel | Quarter Bar | Restaurant | IndianThis place is usually jam packed with public working in the offices in the Lower Parel area.
Extremely noisy place. You need to shout to have a conversation.
Quite a costly quarter bar. About 130 a quarter of Old Monk which is about 30% more than other places of it's type.
Reasonably clean place but two dirty loos.
Once in a while you see a few women around as part of a group due to the media companies in the area.
The food is very average and avoidable as is the place itself.

Kapila Bar
Submitted by cnb on Mon, 09/10/2006 - 09:05. Pune | Dhole Patil Road | Bar | Quarter Bar | Restaurant | Indian | PunjabiKapila is huge.
That's the first thing which comes to mind. It's as close to a festival of booze as you would get at a Bar in India.
It's open air with covers which protect against the rain in the Monsoon.
It serves reasonably good food and excellent Tandoori chicken.
The booze is cheap and served by the quarter. Which is what most people go for and leave fully satisfied.
