Snack Joint
Order food online or on the phone and have them deliver it to your door
Submitted by hydfoodie on Wed, 30/04/2008 - 07:00. Hyderabad | Pune | Bakery | Elite Restaurant | Restaurant | Snack JointEver been in a situation where you were hungry and needed good food from your favorite joint, but yet were not interested in or in a position to make the trip to the restaurant? Didn't know if they delivered home, or if they did, who to call? Or just wanted to try out a bunch of different restaurants but didn't want to take on the increasingly annoying Hyderabad traffic? Well, I've been in all of these situations, and on multiple occasions and wished there was an easy way to order my food and get it home-delivered. Not always was it easy to remember the number of every restaurant, and even if I did, some of my favorites such as Chutneys and Ohris don't really deliver at home. They gave me the option of ordering on the phone but I'd then have to go pick up. i confess to having used this take-out option more than a few times, but surely, life isn't supposed to be this hard. More recently, I discovered this online option of ordering thru Ordermonger.com and it certainly solved a lot of my problems. They list over 50 restaurants in Hyderabad and you can browse their menus online and place the order. I like the general look-and-feel of their site and the menus etc but they certainly need to work harder at making the site more intuitive and easier to use. For one, I'd like to be able to more easily customize my order, right now that seems a challenge. They also only seem to operate in certain areas of Hyderabad, think they need to reach out to Secunderabad, Himayat Nagar and the like. And lastly, they also tag on a delivery charge - i guess this is not such a bad thing because their charge seems reasonable and it would cost me more to go there myself. Overall, a pretty decent option. Call me lazy, but i love the luxury.

Describe the place. As long as you want. Include some food/drink tips, what not to miss, what to avoid, etc.
A rating based on one visit might be misleading - try and keep things fact-based. Remember, we are a hitchhiker's guide to eating and drinking.

Vinayaka Bhenne Gulkand

So you exclaim, "No one eats roses!"
Psst... Come with me as I introduce you to a gulkand snack-point. This snack-point is famous on DVG Road - a small place protruding on to the payment. I think it's a great idea to keep the gulkand tradition alive, affordable, and famous in this era. Three cheers to this snack-point!
You can order for gulkand with butter and banana, dry fruits, inside bun, or plain. You also get sprouts salad, mixed veg salad, and pulses salad. You get a variety of soda drinks - lime soda, pudina soda, masala soda.
What I like the most is the butter gulkand with banana and pudina soda. It's awesome only if you like the gulkand taste; else do not try.
You can see heads of people watching the master making the soda or his assistant beating butter with gulkand. Heap of soda bottles on the floor! Patience, patience, patience, you shall get your order at the earliest.
The cost of gulkand and sodas ranges from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 (max)onwards. Additional cost, waiting in the queue, getting pushed by others, and to learn payment etiquettes! :)
Check out http://ayurveda-foryou.com/archive/gulkand.html for more information on gulkand and its benefits.
A must visit place!

Good and afforable food. Best for a quick breakfast or lunch.
Avoid the north indian fare.
The All American Diner
Submitted by epicurean on Thu, 18/01/2007 - 10:15. Delhi | Lodhi Road | Bar | Cafe | Restaurant | Snack Joint | American | Rich and Famous
Promising to keep up with the popular diners brand, this place serves some nice pancakes, toasts , burgers and all that makes up for an american breakfast along with some seldom found main course items.
I found the potato/veg pancakes rare and quite satisfactory to my taste buds. The food is fresh, less spicy(even the spiciest might not be spicy for indian taste) and looks exotic in presentation as well.
The drinks cover almost all cocktails, mocktails and general hard drinks but also include some innovative alcohol-coffee combinations which look very tempting to be tried.
The decor is made up to suit the 50-60's retro look, what with some red-ed setup and everything matching up to it and while you dine, rock'n'roll with Elvis :)

I ate at the Church Street one. Had the Chicken Kathi Roll with egg. It was just average. Not bad but nothing special.

Submitted by cnb on Wed, 03/01/2007 - 14:17. Bangalore | M.G.Road | Snack Joint | Must VisitHardcore sandwich and burger joint which is always crowded and open till late in the night.
They have seating for around 30 people or you can drive near the restaurant and they will deliver the food to you in your car where you can have it.
I had a roast lamb sandwich there which was excellent. Will explore this place again later.
Premshree (who showed me this place) recommends the Club Sandwich too.
Brahmin's Cafe Bar
Submitted by Meeravinay on Tue, 02/01/2007 - 11:39. Bangalore | Snack Joint | South Indian | Must VisitTucked in a corner in Shankarpuram(neighbouring Gandhibazar), Brahmin's cafe bar has been a popular hangout for idli lovers in this part of the town.
The simple menu offers kharabhath, vada, kesaribhath besides filter coffee . However it is the lure of butter soft idlis( with a generous helping of coconut chutni)which keeps pulling back people everytime.
It's open in the mornings & evenings and closed on Sunday.
