Mangalorean
Pingara
Submitted by bvs on Tue, 17/04/2007 - 13:36. Koramangala | Quarter Bar | Mangalorean | AffordableThey call this a Family Restaurant. But looks like a typical Mangalorean Drinking joint.
I went there in the evening at about 6:30. The place was empty. Too early for a crowd to be in such a place, I guess.
Beer costs 70 KF Lager. A plate of Kane Fry costs 70. The fish was fresh, the beer chilled. Service was friendly.
Looks like a good place to have fish curry rice and beer in the after noon or a quick drink with friends in the evening.

A (Bombay Style) Bar with fresh Mangalorean Seafood!
Old Monk with Surmai Fry, Kane and Prawns. Life can't get better than that.
The fish dishes, Surmai & Kane, etc are reasonably priced at around Rs. 60 each. The prawns are a bit costly at Rs. 120.
The fish was very fresh while the prawns seemed old. The Kane Rawa Fry was superb!
An Old Monk peg is Rs. 26. Costly by Bangalore Bar standards but cheap by Bombay standards. They don't serve quarters but at 26 a peg I'm not missing quarters.
The famous Shetty efficiency and service with a smile which makes tiny quarter bars in Bombay endearing is here in abundance.
If they manage to maintain the seafood freshness and quality, this place could become a personal favourite.
They also have a branch in Sanjaynagar.

- Sea food platter. Just keeps coming
- Go ahead and order a mix of appams, idiappams and for sides order just about anything with seafood.. particularly their lobsters.
Drinks are standard or imported Vodka / Whiskey / Gin / Wine etc. So nothing specific to write about.
For a team of 4 to 5 people with 2 drinks + starter + maincourse + desserts will put you back by 10K to 12K bucks.
Windsor Pub
Submitted by anandkr on Fri, 15/12/2006 - 16:17. Bangalore | Vasanthnagar | Pub | Kerala | Mangalorean | Seafood | South Indian | AffordableGetting there : Take the road opposite to Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan on the Millers road and you will find this place on your right hand side.
This is a awesome beer only joint that serves a medley of food. But best known for their fish / pork / beef dishes. Have the above as fries for starters and as curries for main course with dosa / kerala parotha / appams.
The music is doors / pink floyd / CCR.. .catch the drift??? Frequented by college crowd and the offices on Cunnigham road. Can seat about 30 people... so can be difficult to find a place if you are late. If you dont like smoky joints.. this place can get a bit painful.
Perhaps one of the very few places like this on this part of the town.
Vrindavan
Submitted by cnb on Sun, 01/10/2006 - 00:40. Mumbai | Colaba | Quarter Bar | Mangalorean | CheapmaxVrindavan is a cheap quarter bar in Colaba. It has a ground floor and a mezanaine floor with a very low ceiling where you are likely to hit your head a few times.
Very noisy, always crowded and dingy. There are two AC sections one on each floor which are very stuffy.
The one advantage it has over it's next door competitor the venerable (and similarly dingy) Gokul is that it accepts credit cards.
On weekdays, if you need a parcel in the night till about 3AM you can go knock on the door and bug them until they give you a parcel.
On Saturdays it is open till 3AM.

The Prawns Koliwada was not too great. Tasted more like prawns bhajiya. The Surmai Anjuna Fry was interesting. It had a taste of methya (methi dana). This was followed by

| Mutton Hara Sukka | Goan Fish Gravy |
The Mutton Hara Sukka was good and could have been excellent if it they hadn't served it dripping with oil. The Goan Fish Gravy tasted like a standard Surmai Gassi. Hard to mess up and tastes great with rice. The drinks are quite cheap at about 125 a quarter of Fuel Vodka. One of the few decent places currently if one wants to have inexpensive drinks with decent food and good ambiance in Airoli.
Mojos
Submitted by cnb on Wed, 09/08/2006 - 06:17. Bangalore | Residency Road | Pub | Mangalorean | South Indian | Part of a chainPart of the rapidly expanding Pecos chain, this place has the tested and proven Pecos formula. Good classic rock, good food and great beer. Yeah beer. For some reason the temprature and taste of beer is best in the pubs in the Pecos Chain.
The ambiance is nice. Dim but not dark. The music is loud but one can hold a conversation if you raise your voice a bit.
The Pork Chilli and the Kerala Beef make excellent beer accompaniments. For a main course the Appams with Chicken Stew or Dosa Chicken would be my favourites.
Oh yeah and they have a pitcher and mug card system. If you drink 10 Pitchers you get one free. Same with mugs.
The crowd is mostly young with a good smattering of good looking women :)
An excellent rock pub to hang out at.
Kubay
Submitted by cnb on Wed, 09/08/2006 - 04:35. Bangalore | Koramangala | Restaurant | Konkani | Mangalorean | Goan | Affordable | Must VisitA Konkani restaurant in Kormangala which serves fresh seafood.
We had the following:
- Prawns Butter Pepper Garlic which were excellent. Large juicy prawns.
- Mussles Spicy Fry which was a bit overcooked or burnt.
- Surmai Fry - Just perfectly made
- Mangalorean Fish Curry - Good.
- Chicken Ghee Roast - Not bad but it felt more like a punjabi chicken kabab dish rather then what I tend to compare Chicken Ghee Roast to wiz the one served at Shetty Lunch Home in Kundapur where you order it an hour in advance and it comes spicy and dripping of ghee. The one at Kubay could have used a bit more methi, red chilli and ghee.
- Sannas - Rice Idlis which were nice.
While I was there I saw a lot of Bombay and Maharashtrian folks there which is not surprising cause you get great seafood in Kubay like Apurva, Mahesh, Bharat, Trishna etc in Bombay so this must be a place of nostalgia for a Bombayite which is exactly what I was feeling although I had only left Bombay a week ago.
Few cons.
- It doesn't have a bar. That would have really rocked :)
- It appears to be more of a afternoon place as most seafood was run out by 2PM.
- The service is decent but they could be friendlier. Somehow one got the feeling they were in some hurry to run out of the restaurant.
Conclusion: A must visit place if you are a seafood and konkani cuisine lover.
